Zeus Jones does a very cool writeup on Tumblr’s signup process!Read this. And then read it again. But skip down to the first paragraph before the screenshots. The rest is unnecessary.
Analysis is spot on. My only qualm with Tumblr is that it’s designed with Apple creep - the notion that eveyone has a big monitor, so big buttons, headers, and forms make their way into the design (page width is irrelevant; it’s more about proportioning objects on a page to the size of the actual machine).
