This is an update/amendment to my post from yesterday about Jon Bellona of Run for the Fallen.
Jon’s best friend, Michael Cleary, was killed in action in December 2005. Michael’s sister, Erin Flanagan, approached John McCain in June 2007 and asked him how he intends “to stop the suffering of families who had lost their loved ones to a badly managed war”.
Almost nine months later, it looks like McCain’s response to this particular question signified a major turnaround in an otherwise crash and burn run for his party’s presidential nomination. Read more here.
